Introduction

Post by rebeccase »

Hiya. I've lurked for a while but finally got around to posting recently.

I'm from San Jose but the Mr and I like to spend as much time as possible exploring the desert backcountry and the DV area is naturally our favorite. We enjoy long cross country hikes, bagging peaks, canyons, climbing, photography, 4x4 runs, discovering cool tucked away places (especially old cabins - we have a 'cabin kit' in our truck and try to do a little maintenance/rodent control when we find one) and generally just getting away from the crowds of Silicon Valley. My 'second home' is the 395 corridor - summer in the Sierra, rest of the year in the desert. Can't wait for the day I can retire out here.

Anyways, thanks for the inspiration, the mysteries, and information. Hope to contribute where I can.

Heading out for Thanksgiving week and as usual, the 'todo' list is much longer than the 9 days I'll have to spend out there, but I still love every second of it.

Welcome to the board!

Please take some time to read the few rules we have on this board, located in this section. You'll find us a friendly bunch, and always willing to share our recommendation about the desert and surrounding areas. We also look forward to hearing stories from your travels.

If you are in the area for Thanksgiving, stop by Panamint Springs. You can partake of their free will Thanksgiving dinner, and meet several of us that will be out there as well. If you do come, introduce yourself to me. I'll be at the table by the front door of the restaurant, greeting folks as they come in.

Welcome. I envy anyone who is that close to DV. I'm a minimumof three days if I push it... four if I drive the way one is supposed to.

Thanks! We've spent a couple of thanksgivings at PSR but for the past five years or so we've met friends and made our own TG dinner in the backcountry. Here's what a thanksgiving dinner made over a campfire and campstoves looks like (last year was at Minietta - this year we'll be outside Shoshone). It's my favorite trip of the year.
