Re: New to the site - and to the West side of the Valley

If you drive out Minnietta Rd. and drop down the fault scarp to the bottom, on the right are some excellent sites for camping with groups of people. From there, you can drive to the lower Modoc mining area at the east side of Lookout Mountain and hike or drive to the Minnietta area on the south wher...

Re: New to the site - and to the West side of the Valley

Is there plenty to see? There is. I believe if you spend a little time researching old threads, you can answer all the questions you have stated and will state in the near and far future. However, by the time this thread ends, plenty of regulars will add their wisdom. The roads are in constant flux ...

Re: New to site

Costa Mesa, myself. We are a fun-loving group of desert-savy, know-it-alls, with an emphasis for PV. Other than that, we agree on at least one thing, Panamint valley is a great place to be. Everything else is up for debate.

Glad to have you. Gear Grinders has a great reputation here. We are a quirky bunch, but we do know about the PV area and think we know about everything else.

Re: Saying hi from Helendale ca

You are joining a seasoned group (mostly pepper) of PV and Mojave folks. But everyone sees different things when they are out driving around and it sounds like your rock-hounding is something some of us may want to hear more about.

Re: Lurking no more....first post!

Welcome aboard. We love trip reports about almost anywhere in the desert. It doesn't have to be the DV area. And don't forget to post the pictures.

Re: Panamint City Apples

I have apple trees at my cabin in the San Jacinto Mountains (5,300') that are volunteers. They rarely give apples. There are trees in town that do produce apples with greater regularity. In PC, the elevation probably prevents apple trees, even those which can produce apples in that environment, from...

Re: Howdy from a former Panamint Valley visitor

We have all---ALL--the info on the area at this site...or most of it...or a part of it...a little bit, at least. I think this is a very helpful and yet diverse group and if you have the passion for the desert and especially that unique place called Panamint Valley and the surrounding mountains, jump...

Re: Hello!

Welcome aboard. Save any glass Sobe bottles and the caps. Oops, maybe I've said too much already. Never mind. The website has a ton of information about the whole area but mostly Panamint Valley-- information that a person can find nowhere else. Panamint Charley is the guy who knows the most about u...

Re: Newbie from SoCal

The road through Cerro Gordo is a county road, however, permission needs to be obtained from the caretaker to actually go inside any of the buildings or wander around on the property. Plenty of things can be seen from the road and there is much to photograph. The high country in the Inyo's and Panam...
